So, I have a bit of a soft spot for Missoni...While I was studying abroad in London, I actually got to attend a Missoni Fashion Show at the V & A Museum. Pictured above is my program and some pics I snapped at the event. It was fabulous!!

I think it's pretty great that Target partners with major designers like Missoni to bring chic & affordable goods to the masses. The clothing was ultra picked over (after only a few short hours on the shelves), but I was stoked about the homewares I scored!

TWO MONTHS OLD...

It's so hard to believe that my baby is already 2 months old today! It feels like just yesterday that I was standing in our kitchen telling Wayde about my positive pregnancy test...

We are so in love with our Ruby Jayne! She is a very attentive little girl. She loves being talked to and has been cooing in response. She also enjoys sucking her thumb. We hope it doesn't become a problem, but for now it's too adorable to watch! Actually, I'm kind of relieved that she's learning to pacify herself.

I return to work in 3 weeks and am not quite sure how she's going to handle it (or myself for that matter)!! I love that I've been able to spend as much time as home with her as I have...I wish it could be longer!

My Creative Dilemma

So...it's been awhile since I've kept this blog updated with new posts. A lot has happened since last Fall! Giving birth to our baby girl, Ruby, has completely changed our world (for the better).

I wasn't quite prepared for how much the pregnancy and weeks following the delivery were going to wipe me out. There was so much I was hoping to get done during my 12 week maternity leave! So far, it's been a lot of time spent cuddling on the couch, which I wouldn't change for anything.

It was important to me that I document this time in our life, but how? As a creative person, I felt a lot of pressure to produce something unique & meaningful. What resulted was a handful of photos displaying my week-to-week progress and a slew of shoddy pics captured on my iPod.

I was stumped.

I have to do better than this.

Good news is that it's not too late!

This time around, I'm not going to get hung up on blog hits. I might not post as regularly as I did a year ago. This might not be the kind of blog you'd be interested in reading anymore.

But I will be producing more original content focusing on the life & times of this crafty, working mama & blogger. I'm still ironing out some of the details I'd like to feature, but you are invited to see what happens in this next chapter of soZealous!! Thanks to all who have supported me on the journey thus far xx

Our dear friend Maren got this little number for Ruby, which we like to refer to as her "Charlie Brown dress".

Parlours in the City

Fresh off the heels of their network television debut ("I Dream of Chicago" feat. in Fox's The Chicago Code finale), Parlours set out for the Windy City on a whirlwind mini-tour.

In addition to a club show, house show, and two radio interviews, the band performed at the Threadless Store in part of their Warehouse Sessions series.

Here's a little onesie that Papa Wayde picked up for Baby Stover at Threadless. It's called, "Fake Pandas Have More Fun" & it's super cute!

We're only days away now from Baby's arrival and we couldn't be more excited!!

A Peek Inside Baby Stover's room...

The room is still a work in progress, but with our due date less than two weeks away(!), we're pleased enough with what we've accomplished that baby is welcome to come any day.

It's unknown whether Baby Stover is a boy or a girl, but I was ok with settling for blue & green for the theme colors. Maybe I'll switch out the blue for some lavender if it's a she!

Everything hanging from the walls and the ceiling was made by this little Mama-to-be. Pom poms were $1 each (tutorials can be easily found on the web) and painted frames are straight from the soZealous inventory.

This area has improved tremendously since the photo was taken. I opted to use an industrial storage shelf as a changing table - something I can use again in the future.

I'm still on the lookout for some white or clear filing/ milk crates to complete it, which has actually been harder to find than you'd think.

This banner was simple to make, but took a few hours to complete. Materials cost about $10 for bias tape and 3 - 1/2 yards of fabric.

There was a lot of space to fill on this wall and I think the banner really does the job!

SOOOOOO looking forward to showing Baby Stover his or her room!!

A Benefit Concert

It's been a little quiet on my blog, but I wanted to mention this event to bless a wonderful couple (and their baby boy on the way).

In an effort to alleviate some of the burdens of medical expenses, a benefit concert will be thrown in their honor on Wednesday, April 27th at 7:30pm.

Featuring performances from CANBY, RYAN STIER (of The River Monks), WOLFGANG, SEEDLINGS, & ZACHARY HARPER.

$8 admission / 21+ / All proceeds will go to the Kretzu family.

P.S. There will be cupcakes!!

The One I Love

Every Valentine's Day, the Hubby & I have a tradition where we go out for breakfast and exchange records. Here he is with his gift, Brothers by The Black Keys.

Wayde got me The Dead Weather's latest, Sea of Cowards. I can't believe this was our 5th Valentine's Day together!

In an effort to keep the love theme going, I cut our pizza into the shape of a heart for dinner. Such a wonderful day xx

Last Year At Marienbad

So far, I've spent the majority of this new year laying on a couch with the stomach bug:( On the bright side, this has allowed me to catch up on my film list!

Last Year at Marienbad was one that I screened. Though I found the plot to be somewhat incomprehensible, the visuals were absolutely stunning.

Costumes by Chanel, of course.

Bithday Weekend Recap

FOUND: Pink chair, curbside on the way to my parent's for family birthday celebration. We all enjoyed ice cream cake and, as hoped for, I received a giftcard to the Apple Store so I could buy the new iPod touch!

Sunday brunch with friends at Mars Cafe.
Stopped into Secondhand Rose Antiques on Sunday. The shop has so many pretty things and is merchandised beautifully. I especially loved the vintage dishware.

Sunday night was spent working on a project for the upcoming DIY fashion class I will be co-teaching for Freedom for Youth. I am really excited about this new venture and will be posting updates when it starts next week.

It's here! My birthday!! Does anyone else feel like their day of birth has a sparkly sheen over it? Because I sure do.

As much as I love a good celebration, we're going to keep things pretty low-key this year. Dinner (Thai food) & a movie (Never Let Me Go) with the hubby. Drinks with friends at our favorite martini spot. Gatherings (to include ice cream cake) with the family.

I'm pretty sure I know what my big prezzie is this year, and if I'm correct, it'll change the face of my blog for the better. I won't get it until tomorrow either, so the anticipation is just tormenting...

Parlours Shoot!

Last Friday was the album cover/ music video shoot for Parlours (the band my Hubby plays drums for). My task was to create a Victorian parlor set-up under a beautiful, old tree.

I had SO much fun and couldn't have been able to do it without the help of some wonderful people who were very generous in lending out their antique furniture & decor.

Dave Poyzer, of Save Deth and The Wedding Format, directed the shoot. Considering the time & lighting constraints we had to work within, the whole thing went incredibly smooth.

I can't believe my birthday is in a little over two weeks already! For tradition's sake, here's my list of things that I don't exactly need, but wouldn't refuse as gifts. In no particular order...

A dress form. If there is anything left to own that would legitimize myself as a fashion designer/ seamstress/ sewing enthusiast, it's one of these. I pretty much have everything else.

High Violet by The National on vinyl. Currently loving this album.

Stella McCartney anything. More reasonably, Stella by Stella McCartney perfume. It's my favorite. And I'm all out.

And last, but not certainly least, an iPod Touch WITH camera phone. I've been wanting one of these even before they were in existence.

I'm always willing to accept old cameras, fashion & design books, Criterion Collection films, and pretty much anything vintage!

This past weekend was packed with activities! College bestie in town, Market Day Iowa, Dogtown Fest, AND a short film shoot. The perfect kind of weekend for my camera battery to die. Ugh.

Instead, I'll just have to share the few bargains I got at Michael's in the dollar bins. There was a variety of cups, magnets, and stationary items with these Victorian-esque images on them. So cute!

I'm currently hunting for merch inspiration for my Hubby's new musical group, Parlours. They're super good and will be opening for Tim Kasher (Cursive/ The Good Life) TONIGHT at the Vaudeville Mews!

Wedding Weekend

It's official. My little brother is married! Both the wedding & reception were held in a beautiful old house in a beautiful old neighborhood. It rained the whole day, but it didn't get anyone down. It was actually quite lovely.

Joel & Amy exchanged vows under a pretty chandelier and walked down the aisle for the first time as a married couple to Queen's "You're My Best Friend". There were cupcakes, bad beer, medieval weapons, and even a circle pit at the dance. The day was perfect. Congrats Joel & Amy!!

Some of the wedding party ended up at the Beechwood Lounge afterwards where The Corporation was having an event. Pressure Drop was in full swing spinning reggae & vintage beats. If you want to get an idea of what it was like, check out this video.

The Renegade Craft Fair hit Chicago this past weekend and I had an amazingly fun time assisting my dear friends from Urban Posture at their spectacular booth!

Our first night in the city was spent at an Etsy Success Panel live webcast (I'll try to tweet the link when it gets posted).

The panel consisted of Etsy employees, Renegade organizers, and local artisans. It was definitely an interesting perspective to get on selling handmade goods at both fairs & online.

The first day off Renegade kicked off with...rain. Set up was most certainly a challenge as we manuevered around puddles and worked to keep everything off the ground. Only a few pieces succombed to the wetness, but luckily the showers subsided as the shoppers trickled in.

The booth looked AMAZING. Leslie and Sarah have worked so hard to create a space that has a cohesive aesthetic and it showed. Their attention to detail did not go unnoticed!

It was a lot of fun to sell goods that were so well loved and sought after. To overhear customers saying that Urban Posture was their favorite booth was such a treat and I am so proud of my friends! Renegade = SUCCESS.

A trip to Chicago isn't complete without brunch at Southport Grocery & Cafe. I got the Sweet & Savory French Toast this time around and it was CRAZY DELICIOUS.

Overall, I had a great time helping out at Renegade and meeting lots of crafty people. I'm definitely feeling inspired to keep making & selling my goods. Who knows...maybe even becoming an Renegade seller someday.

Labor Day Thrift Review

This past Labor Day weekend was spent in every type of second-hand outlet from thrift stores to the great Trader's Market in Elko, MN.

Making it even more enjoyable was spending it with two of my favorite ladies, Dena & Maren of Heads Twogether.

The bi-annual Trader's Market boasted 300+ antique/ flea market vendors. Needless to say, we didn't leave the grounds empty handed...

In addition to the two Kodak Brownies I scored (a No.2 & a Six-20), I thought this Mercury Satellite 127 would fit well in the vintage camera collection.

And I couldn't resist this hot pink Ambush powder box. It definitely looks at home on my bookshelf (which I'll have to share sometime in another blog post).

Market Day & A Music Show

Another Market Day Iowa down...always a great event to be part of and a privilege to be featured amongst so many local creatives.

Similar booth set-up as last month with lots of pretty new things! (P.S. There WILL be an Etsy shop update COMING SOON.)

Huge thanks to my darling hubby who helped me pack/ transport everything to the venue and so willingly toted around my pink suitcase. LOVE HIM.

I just had enough time for a nap between tearing down my booth and hitting the road to Omaha for SHE & HIM!

It was a gorgeous night for an outdoor concert and we actually got super close to the stage! Of course, Zooey was as adorable as you'd imagine her to be.

Our goal was meet Mrs. Gibbard in person, but alas, she disappeared from the venue immediately after the show.

M.Ward signed our vinyls instead, which [kind of] made up for it.

It does look a little lonely without Zooey's autograph...

Not a bad weekend at all though:)

Iowa State Fair/ Thrifting Highlights

Wayde & I made our annual pilgrimage to the Iowa State Fair this past weekend. The weather was GORGEOUS and everyone was out to take advantage of it.

I tried to photo document all the nasty food that I indulged in, but I won't bore you with that slideshow. This foot-long corndog was rather tasty though!

My little sister [in-law] tap danced in the talent competition and made it on to the semi-finals! WAY TO GO, PAYTIN!

Lollapalooza Weekend!

The Hubby & I spontaneously decided to visit Chicago for Lollapalooza this past weekend and it was COMPLETELY worth the trip!

Our one & only requirement when spending time in a different city is to indulge ourselves in the best FOOD & COFFEE.

Our lovely (and very last-minute) hostess, Tiffany, recommended Southport Grocery & Cafe, a fabulous little place in her neighborhood. The bread-pudding pancakes (above) were unimaginably delicious!!

Before hitting the fest, we stopped into Intellegentsia Coffee for a little caffeine fix (which is a Mecca-like establishment in the barista world--trust me, I would know). The Black Cat Classic Espresso is SECOND TO NONE.

I'm hoping to get some reading done in the car this weekend on the way to Chicago for LOLLAPALOOZA! We only decided this week to make it to the music fest, which was largely influenced by the release of Arcade Fire's The Suburbs album.

It has become my quest to hear the new songs performed live and I'm only too lucky to have a husband willing to comply with my spontaneous missions.

Happy National Bowling Week! As a bowling enthusiast, I couldn't neglect giving a nod to one of my favorite pastimes on the blog.

I searched far and wide on the web to find the most fabulous bowling alley I could. All Star Lanes (in the burrough of Holborn, London) just may be it.

Because Madonna's got to bowl somewhere...(and she has!)

Perhaps next time, London. I'd maybe even consider bringing my customized bowling ball as a carry-on item...

The film clip is from a 1956 fantasy short entitled Design for Dreaming. The story is about a woman who wants her husband to buy her every car she sees.

It's beautiful & haunting & fuses gorgeously with the song.

Market Day & A Mad Men Party

Market Day Iowa = SUCCESS! If you've ever thought about vending at one of these, I would DEFINITELY recommend it. The organizers do a fabulous job of promoting the event and there's a lot of traffic coming through from the downtown farmer's market.

I included a few retro decorating & sewing books in my booth, which I'll be adding to my Etsy shop based on the positive reception from customers.

Here's a tutorial from Martha Stewart on repurposing an old plate into a pretty little mirror.

This is especially great if that particular plate has any imperfections, but you can't seem to part with it. Doesn't the ribbon give it such a nice touch?

Another weekend in the life...

This was one of those weekends where everything I planned seemed to fall through, but what happened in place of it was possibly more enjoyable.

Our craft party was under attended, so the few of us that were there went to see Exit Thru The Gift Shop (a Banksy joint) at Fleur Cinema. LOVED IT. I laughed, I cried (or not), my love for art & filmmaking was reignited.

Saturday night was the DEVO concert!! We didn't actually buy tickets, but the spot we secured on the side of the stage got us a full view of the action. Such a gorgeous view of Des Moines behind the flooded Simon Estes ampitheatre...
