Parlours CD Release Party!

Parlours celebrated the release of their first full length album, All is Here, with a packed out CD release party at Wooly's Friday night. Fresh from their West Coast tour, the band finally got to share the new tunes with family & friends in their hometown.

The good news is you don't have to wait until their next show to buy the album either - All is Here is now available on iTunes HERE.

Thanks for bearing with me on the Parlours postings. I share these updates about the band because it is a big part of our lives.

I don't know what the future holds for Parlours, but it's an exciting time for the band and I truly think they put out a great album. It's been on repeat in my car since I opened it and I am only falling more in love with the songs. Seriously, go buy it and tell me what you think of it...xx

Best Wedding EVER!!

If I could go back and change some of the details of my own wedding, it would’ve looked very much like the one we attended this past weekend. Our friends Scott & Kristin exchanged vows in an East Village loft (which also doubles as an artist space).

A wall constructed from register receipts was the backdrop for the small, low key ceremony. The juxtaposition of simple décor in the unfinished room was just so lovely.

Ruby wore a little vintage dress that I thrifted before she was born. I think it was the only piece of clothing for a girl I bought before her arrival. It was pretty special to see her wearing it & she looked like an absolute doll!

Papa wore: Tie, Christian Dior (thrifted); Shirt, Land's End; Vest, thrifted; Trousers, Docker's Alpha Slim; Shoes, Florsheim Wingtips (thrifted).

Mama wore: Dress (vintage/ thrifted); Bow hat (vintage/ thrifted); Shoes (Von Maur).

The reception was held at Wooly’s. Considering it’s regularly a music venue/ bar, it made a phenomenal place for the party. Guests were treated to a wonderful dinner, tasty cupcakes, & Tropical Sno!  

Guest took a small walk to send off some flying sky lanterns from the Simon Estes Amphitheatre. It was pretty magical, to say the least.

The night's entertainment was brought to us from the best of Des Moines music scene, which I wouldn't have expected anything less from the couple.

A Beatles cover band featuring members of The Envy Corps kicked off the evening followed up by DJ 810 of Pressure Drop & John Solarz of Weekend Records. There were even glowsticks.

Parlours Weekend Pt.1

 We've had a whirlwind weekend with not one, but TWO Parlours shows! Both gigs were completely different, yet equally entertaining. Good times were had. The band has been playing lots of new jams as there is a full length album on the horizon...stay tuned, y'all.

 I was asked to put a little something together to beautify the merch table. As we're heading into the summer months, I was inspired to create a vintage picnic setup. Gingham table cloth. CDs prominently displayed on a pie plate. Stickers & buttons on a tiered serving tray. Mason jars filled with more buttons & candy for the taking. Add a basket, some thermoses, a camera...oh yes, there were also some beautiful new shirts & tote bags.

I love LOVE doing this sort of thing. And how great does this look in front of the Wooly's chalkboard wall?

Wooly's just might be the greatest thing to happen to Des Moines since...Fong's Pizza, perhaps? Well, I don't know what. We've been waiting for a long time for a place like this though. Great size, great location, overall great venue. Looking forward to making many more memories in this space.
