Lost In Translation

While thrifting this week, I found what might be one of my greatest book finds. EVER.

Published in 1959, Women of Japan is a collection of photos & essays documenting everyday life in a style similar to modern-day street fashion observers, The Sartorialist or Fruits Magazine.

The images are simply captivating. Here's a few of my favorites:

Author: Christine Arnothy
Photography: Marc Riboud

There's not a lot of information I could find about Andre Deutsch's publishing house, or other Bruna books, but I'd like it think it was like the Phaidon Press of it's day.

Maybe I'll compile a Women of Italy (the other book I picked up) blog post at some point!

Best of the Week Vol. 6 [Fashionably Late]

1.) View samples from Phaidon Publishing's recent glamor book, SAMPLE, here.
2.) I feel like I reference This is Glamorous a lot, but this cork board lamp is too fabulous.
3.) Deep in the archives of Loveology, a chandelier hanging from a tree. Loving the juxtaposition in this photo. And the blog is pure visual candy!
4.) This comes a little late in the year, but I am all over this Geisha Calendar!
5.) 10 easy steps to making your own hair accessory! Courtesy of Maquette.

Send me a postcard, darling.

Send me a postcard now. Preferably one of the vintage, hand-colored persuasion.

I purchased some last summer at a second-hand clothing boutique on Richmond's famed Cary Street. It's a feature I definitely want to incorporate in the soZealous collection. Yet, I'm finding them hard to come by! If anything, they make excellent frame fillers!
