Best of the Week Vol.Forty-Nine

1. See Jane Advocate is a great resource for learning ways to bring out social justice in the world. Recently posted is an opportunity to donate clothing to survivors of trafficking & sexual exploitation.

2. If you're a sucker for perfume commercials (like I am), you'll enjoy the the making of 'Love, ChloƩ' fragrance ad directed by Roman Coppola.

3. Consume less. Share more. Save money. SIMPLE.

4. This is pretty amazing. You can now have your cremated ashes pressed into a vinyl record.

5. European IKEA outlets, in an effort to be resourceful, are now selling second hand furniture online. Let's hope they bring this idea stateside!

6. Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably already seen this interactive music video from Arcade Fire. Still, it's pretty cool.

Thought on a Friday // 09.03.10

While cleaning my craft room last night, I came across a box of old journals and re-read some of my New Zealand entries (2005-06).

I distinctly remember this song underscoring several poignant moments during my time there. Bittersweet nostalgia...

Lollapalooza Weekend!

The Hubby & I spontaneously decided to visit Chicago for Lollapalooza this past weekend and it was COMPLETELY worth the trip!

Our one & only requirement when spending time in a different city is to indulge ourselves in the best FOOD & COFFEE.

Our lovely (and very last-minute) hostess, Tiffany, recommended Southport Grocery & Cafe, a fabulous little place in her neighborhood. The bread-pudding pancakes (above) were unimaginably delicious!!

Before hitting the fest, we stopped into Intellegentsia Coffee for a little caffeine fix (which is a Mecca-like establishment in the barista world--trust me, I would know). The Black Cat Classic Espresso is SECOND TO NONE.

Sporting the latest Urban Posture tee at my 3rd (and Wayde's 1st) Lollapalooza Festival!

Blitzen Trapper, Minus the Bear, Yeasayer, Mute Math, and MGMT were some of the acts we caught, all leading up to the true reason we came...

ARCADE FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trusty jumbo-tron pics.

This is a little more what our view actually looked like.

The set was OUT OF CONTROL as they played heaps of new songs from The Suburbs album. Which I'll stop going on about someday, but it really is that good.

Do yourself a solid and FIND A WAY to see this band live. And preferably, at an outdoor music festival...

Us Kids Know

Until I'm able to load my photos from Lollapalooza this past weekend, feast your eyes on these gorgeous Arcade Fire gig posters...

Design for Dreaming

In search of all things Arcade Fire on The Suburbs album release day, I came across this video featuring an older song, "In the Backseat".

The film clip is from a 1956 fantasy short entitled Design for Dreaming. The story is about a woman who wants her husband to buy her every car she sees.

It's beautiful & haunting & fuses gorgeously with the song.

Best of the Week Vol. I {8th-14th Sept}

So, this is a new section I will be trying to introduce to the blog. I imagine it will evolve over time, but there are so many wonderful, inspiring items & images I come across in a week and I figured that I would start highlighting some of those. Enjoy

1). Photograph from All Things Bright and Beautiful blog.
2.) Heart Necklace from Dudua.
3.) Pretty vintage garments from Pinky's Daily Planner.
4.) Bianca Alexander takes beautiful photos.
5). The Black Apple demonstrates using suitcases as storage.
6.) Chandelier from fab online store, Z Gallerie.
7.) The Shoot Factory is like a location agency for shoots of all kinds, be it film, photography, etc. Check out some of the design schemes!
8.) Austin City Limit featured an Arcade Fire performance this past weekend and I was reminded of how much I enjoy Regine Chassagne's fashion statements, particulary these fantastic gloves (photo by Sassafrass on Flickr) . I might try replicating a pair of these for my winter wardrobe;)
9.) Bow, bows, BOWS from Lou Lou's Bow Emporium .
10.) Fifi Lapin is probably the web's most fashionable illustrated bunny. Here she is in a Betsey Johnson frock.
