soZealous for: WHITE ROOMS

This week, the Hubby & I began moving into our lovely new apartment. In addition to the french doors, hardwood floors, a clawfoot tub, & THREE bedrooms, we also have colored walls in all the rooms. All of the rooms excluding the future home of my crafting space/ office. This got me searching for a little white room inspiration...

Though we do have the option to paint it however we'd like, I'm actually looking forward to leaving the room 'as is' and focusing on pink & black accents. Can't wait to piece it together and post some pics of the new place!!

Best of the Week Vol. Thirty-Three

1. Great post on supporting indie fashion designers including buying tips & a few fashionistas to follow. (via @averyshygirl)

2. Bonnie & Clyde reimagined for Harper's Bazaar March 2010 issue. My current obsession might have something to do with recently purchasing the Bonnie & Clyde album by Brigitte Bardot & Serge Gainsbourg. Try not to get this song stuck in your head...

3. Skelliewag says that if you want to have great ideas, then STOP WORKING.

4. What's Alexa Chung been up to since It's On went off? Piecing together this adorable line for Madewell's Fall 2010 collection.

5. This list could easily have been the Best of Rodarte this week! From the Olympics to Fashion Week to an exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the Mulleavy sisters are all over the place!

6. A creative approach to the Lenten experience.

D.I.Y. Art Deco Headband

She sees it. She likes it. She makes it.

P.S. I Made This is the ultra hip & incredibly resourceful D.I.Y. blog by Erica Domesek. I have only just recently discovered the amazingness of her online portlolio. You can also follow her handmade shenanigans on Twitter!

This beauteous headband dates back from a 27th July post. Simple to make, yet entirely elegant!

Thought on a Friday // 08.14.09

Not just a thought, but an actual book by Filmmaker/ Artist/ Writer Miranda July.

If you ever get a chance, check out Learning to Love You More that she co-wrote with Harrell Fletcher. Stemming from an online community with the same name, it's a collection of assignments that users can complete and submit to the site.

Projects include photographing a significant outfit, drawing a scene from a movie that made you cry, & writing the phone call that you wish you had (to name a few).

If I ever end up doing any of the assignments, maybe you'll see a few of them here...

Better World Shopper

Better World Shopper is an interesting concept (and book) that I came across last night. It features top ten lists of the globe's best & worst companies based on five key issues: the environment, human rights, animal protection, community involvement, and social justice.

I know it's not easy (or the most affordable) to go entirely "green" in our spending, but imagine the gradual impact we can make by switching from a D+ company to B- one...take a moment to see where your money is going!

Old Meets Moustache

For those of us who can't seem to settle on one particular style, Moustache is out to prove that YES, YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL. That is, if you're comfortable with the whole transitional-to-the-extreme look.

Not so crazy about the balloon-esque paper lamps, but I am certainly encouraged (and inspired)!

Most likely not the first (or last) time you have seen this image, but I wanted to feature it on my blog. A beautiful typographic paper illustration by Yulia Brodskaya.

Best of the Week Vol. I {8th-14th Sept}

So, this is a new section I will be trying to introduce to the blog. I imagine it will evolve over time, but there are so many wonderful, inspiring items & images I come across in a week and I figured that I would start highlighting some of those. Enjoy

1). Photograph from All Things Bright and Beautiful blog.
2.) Heart Necklace from Dudua.
3.) Pretty vintage garments from Pinky's Daily Planner.
4.) Bianca Alexander takes beautiful photos.
5). The Black Apple demonstrates using suitcases as storage.
6.) Chandelier from fab online store, Z Gallerie.
7.) The Shoot Factory is like a location agency for shoots of all kinds, be it film, photography, etc. Check out some of the design schemes!
8.) Austin City Limit featured an Arcade Fire performance this past weekend and I was reminded of how much I enjoy Regine Chassagne's fashion statements, particulary these fantastic gloves (photo by Sassafrass on Flickr) . I might try replicating a pair of these for my winter wardrobe;)
9.) Bow, bows, BOWS from Lou Lou's Bow Emporium .
10.) Fifi Lapin is probably the web's most fashionable illustrated bunny. Here she is in a Betsey Johnson frock.

Mmm...Fabulous!

Thanks to Decor8 Blog for the feature on designer Liza Giles' stunning living quarters.

The juxtaposition of bright frames and hand-colored prints pleases me very much aesthetically.

Love Forever

This has been a very exciting blog discovery week for me!

I was quite taken by the craftings of Love Forever and this lampshade in particular.

Her lovely designs may be viewed in the book Complete Embellishings, available now!

Altered Altar

This photo is from a wedding I attended this past weekend. The brocade inspired bride chose this beautifully unconventional setting as the backdrop for their vows. More pictures on my Flickr.

Congrats Luke & Megan!

Fuse-ID

Fuse-ID is Kishani Perera, an L.A. based interior designer. Maybe when I'm rich & famous would I be able to employ her services, but until then I can be inspired by her impressive project portfolio. Downtown Los Angeles Loft, in particular.

Currently: Contemplating the addition of mirrored ruffle frames into the soZealous shop...stay tuned!!

Ruffles

I came across this gorgeous floor lamp at one of the greatest stores in Des Moines, Calypso 968. This could easily be replicated with a pillar floor lamp and spool of ruffles, which I might have to try!

Exquisite!
